The ‘move fast and break things’ philosophy works for many businesses as a means to develop innovative solutions. However, it’s a bad idea for fields that are highly regulated, such as financial technology, healthcare technology, and Artificial Intelligence, where the stakes are high.

Product managers in these specific fields must be careful and earn people’s trust. They must be proficient in meeting user needs while complying with guidelines, additionally, they should ensure their products are safe, moral, and are compliant with legislation.

It requires a leader capable of managing both opportunities and risks. Someone who sees the regulations as an integral component of the product, and not simply as being a hassle. That’s Inimfon Bassey, a senior product manager skilled in developing products in complex, highly regulated environments. She comprehends the requirement is to produce secure products, are compliant, and are reliable.

A big part of Inimfon’s plan is how strictly she manages complying with guidelines and preserving security. She factors in these considerations in product development from the outset. Security is not a subject she addresses subsequently; it’s a primary concern she evaluates. Within fintech, she ensures her teams comply with rules concerning data security, like GDPR and CCPA. In the field of health tech, she is well-versed in HIPAA and utilizes it to secure patient data. She translates complex legal and security requirements into features that products can effectively implement, so the products are useful and safe.

Inimfon also knows how to handle the important balance between generating new ideas quickly and handling risks. She understands that moving too slow could result in losing out to others, but moving too fast may result in substantial security risks or fines. She establishes a transparent risk management framework which empowers her teams to make prompt decisions whilst operating within defined risk tolerances. By figuring out the potential risks and their impact on business goals, she creates a climate where new ideas can grow safely. This enables her to explore innovative approaches with products without jeopardizing the entire organization in danger.

With respect to AI, her focus extends to managing ethical considerations. She believes in AI ethics and ensures the models she builds are fair, clear, and without bias for all users. If she were working on a credit-scoring product, she would make sure the algorithm does not discriminate against individuals unjustly based on where they come from. She asks her team to incorporate features like audit trails and AI that are easily understood. That way, when a model decides, it’s easy to justify and understand.

Her product leadership shines through in examples illustrating how she has navigated complex regulatory situations. For example, for a health tech product, a new feature could have greatly helped patients but required a new way to handle sensitive medical data. Rather than halting progress, Inimfon worked with her legal and compliance teams to devise a strategy that would roll out the feature slowly. This helped her get the needed approval while simultaneously receiving feedback from her team. She translates complex regulatory problems into a structured product development strategy.

Inimfon Bassey’s work shows how product leadership is developing. She has advanced from just handling one product to managing a whole system. She can handle risk and stability while using AI to predict future possibilities. This establishes her as a forward-thinking leader within the field of AI. She guarantees her company’s investments in products go beyond single features but a robust, high-quality collection of items that will contribute to the company’s success sustainably.
