QNET, a global direct-selling company, has joined forces with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment (FMLE) to tackle the country’s youth unemployment crisis and the scourge of fake job scams.
The partnership saw QNET participate in an employability training program designed to equip young Nigerians with essential job-seeking skills. The initiative is part of QNET’s ongoing “Say No!” campaign aimed at raising awareness about fraudulent job offers and human trafficking.
Addressing the alarming youth unemployment rate of 53.4%, QNET’s Regional General Manager, Biram Fall, emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge to navigate the job market safely. He highlighted the company’s challenges in combating fraudulent activities perpetrated under its name, which have led to significant financial losses for many young Nigerians.
The FMLE, represented by Senior Labour Officer Miss Augustina Uka, expressed the ministry’s commitment to youth empowerment. They emphasized the role of their National Electronic Labor Exchange (NELEX) project in creating a database of employable Nigerians. The collaboration with QNET was seen as a crucial step in combating fake job scams and providing young people with the tools they need to succeed.
Participant testimonials underscored the impact of the training program. One participant shared a harrowing experience of falling victim to a job scam, emphasizing the importance of the education provided. Another participant expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn about employability and entrepreneurship skills.
Beyond this initiative, QNET has demonstrated its commitment to social impact through programs like FinGreen, which has empowered over 1,350 Nigerian youth with financial literacy skills. The company’s collaboration with agencies like LASCOPA further reinforces its dedication to protecting young people from fraud and exploitation.
