Social networking platform, Twitter has adduced reasons why it decided to site its headquarter of African operations in Ghana ahead of other African countries in its regional expansion drive.

In a blog post, the company described Ghana as a champion of democracy, supporter of free speech, online freedom and open internet of which Twitter is also an advocate.

Apart from these, Ghana’s recent appointment to host the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with Twitter’s overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support its efforts to improve and tailor the service across Africa.

“Why Ghana? As a champion for democracy, Ghana is a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate,” the post noted.

Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa.

Twitter assured that as part of its long-term commitment to the region, it will continue to explore compelling ways it can use the positive power of Twitter to strengthen communities through employee engagement, platform activation and corporate giving.

Twitter had said to provide more relevant experiences for people across the world, and in line with its growth strategy, it is actively building a team in Ghana to truly serve the public conversation.

Thus, it is looking for specialists to join several teams including product, design, engineering, marketing and communications.

Meanwhile, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has applauded the choice of Ghana as Headquarter of Twitter’s Africa operations.

“The choice of Ghana as HQ for Twitter’s Africa operations is excellent news. Government and Ghanaians welcome very much this announcement and the confidence reposed in our country,” he said.

He assured Twitter that this is the start of a beautiful partnership between Twitter and Ghana, which is critical for the development of Ghana’s hugely important tech sector, adding that these are exciting times to be in and do business in Ghana.
