The Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said, as part of its financial inclusion drive, it has set for itself a target of getting 100 million Bank Verification Number (BVN) registrations in the next five years. This is even as the apex bank revealed that it has successfully linked 38 million accounts with the Bank Verification Numbers. Nigeria’s WEMA Bank has completed the upgrade of its Finacle 10 core banking application. Its Information Communications Technology vendor, CWG Plc that aided the upgrade has revealed. The global upgrade is now completed within the financial institution’s banking system. According to CWG, the upgrade will further enhance WEMA Bank’s branch and e-banking service offerings to customers whilst reducing system downtime and improving access to banking services. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed Nigeria has over 119 million Internet subscribers as at April 2019. The Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN) has applauded the Federal Government’s approval for the implementation of a ‘White paper on Scheme of Service for Computer Professional Cadre in the Public Service’. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has stated that realizing the African Continental Free Trade Area is capable of creating a single continental market of more than 1.3 billion people. With this kind of market, UNCTAD argues, will lead to a combined annual output of $2.2 trillion. The transition phase to the Continental Free Trade Area alone could generate welfare gains of $16.1 billion and boost intra-African trade by 33 per cent.
