International Telecommunication Union (ITU) member states have this morning in Dubai, United Arab Emirates re-elected Houlin Zhao of China as ITU Secretary-General. The election took place during the Union’s 20th Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-18).  Zhao, who contested the election unopposed won the position with 176 votes, from 178 ballot papers d​​eposited. The United States Consulate General in collaboration with RoboRave International, a U.S.-based tech academy, last week concluded a weeklong robotics workshop for 303 teachers and 187 students drawn from selected states in Nigeria. The workshop, which is the second in two years, saw participating students and teachers were from 29 public and private schools across Lagos, Ogun, and Edo states as well as the Federal Capital Territory. Google has pledged $25 million to launch projects that apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to find solutions for various societal problems.   United Kingdom based Ovum has predicted that 5G network will be available in about 10 Middle East and African countries by the end of 2023, with over 26.8 million mobile 5G subscriptions in the region.
