Fidelity Bank deploys AI-Driven systems to boost growth, fight fraud

Technology is no longer just an abstract concept but a highly practical tool for solving real-world business challenges, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc has declared.

She declared this during her keynote address at the 17th Africa’s Beacon of ICT Merit and Leadership lecture held over the weekend.

Represented at the event by Mr. Stanley Amuchie, the bank’s Executive Director, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe detailed how the financial institution has embraced technology as a strategic enabler of operational efficiency and long-term growth.

To back up this vision, Fidelity Bank has deployed advanced AI-driven systems across several key areas of its operations.

According to Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe, the bank’s adoption of artificial intelligence spans critical pillars of modern banking, including security, risk management, and customer service. For real-time fraud prevention, the bank’s fraud detection architecture now leverages machine learning to identify unusual transaction patterns and stop financial losses before they happen.

To enable faster credit decisions, credit assessment processes have been upgraded with data-driven models, significantly improving both the speed and accuracy of loan approvals. Finally, investments in AI-powered customer care, such as digital assistants and chatbots, have allowed the bank to offer round-the-clock support, drastically reducing operational pressure on internal teams while boosting customer satisfaction.

The benefits of this tech-forward approach are also being passed directly to small businesses.

“Through our SME initiatives, we are providing entrepreneurs with digital tools such as Point of Sale (POS) systems and enterprise software. These tools simplify accounting, inventory management, and business decision-making, helping them operate more efficiently and scale sustainably,” Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe stated.

Fidelity Bank’s shift toward intelligent systems mirrors a broader transformation happening across the African continent. In countries like Kenya and South Africa, banks are actively utilizing AI to manage risk, streamline customer onboarding, and drive financial inclusion via automated loan systems.

“The message is clear. Africa is not just a consumer of technology; we are active participants in shaping its future,” she added.

With operational efficiency shifting from an optional luxury to a strict strategic imperative, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe warned that organizations lagging in AI and Internet of Things (IoT) adoption will inevitably struggle with slow decision-making and declining competitiveness.

Looking ahead, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe predicted a rapid convergence of AI and IoT that will soon power smarter cities, predictive healthcare, and highly inclusive financial systems. The real question moving forward, she concluded, is no longer whether these technologies will shape the future, but how prepared organizations are to harness them.
