Across the world, there has been a surge in online gamblers. People are spending their time betting on sports, as well as playing traditional casino games. But the laws and regulations are different in various countries around the world. Of course, Nigeria has its own laws when it comes to gambling. The growing online gambling industry means that the laws are having to be adapted to accommodate this.

    Nigerian gambling regulation

Gambling was once viewed as an antisocial activity in Nigeria. But the introduction of Chapter 22 of the Criminal Code Act meant that some types of gambling were legalized for the public to enjoy. Currently, gambling is being regulated by the National Lottery Regulatory Commission.

There are only certain types of gambling that are currently legal in Nigeria. This includes betting and pools and lotteries, as well as games as land casinos. In particular, there are only three land casinos that are licensed in Nigeria. You will two of these casinos located in Lagos and the other is found in Abuja. Some games that you will find include American Roulette and Blackjack, as well as slot machines. Generally, games that involve some skills to play are classed as legal in the country. If the game is one of chance, this is going to be illegal. In order to gamble in Nigeria, you must be 18 years of age or older.

The future of gambling is changing not only in Nigeria but around the world. A lot of more people are choosing to enjoy casino games and gambling at home instead of going to a brick-and-mortar casino. Indeed, there are about 41 percent of Africans that now enjoy access to the internet, being able to surf the web and gamble on websites such as casino.netbet.ng.

    Online gambling and the law

At one point in time, everyone would have to visit brick-and-mortar casinos to enjoy gambling. But the improvement of technology has now meant that this an activity that a lot of people can enjoy from home. In particular, more Nigerians are investing in technology, particularly having their own personal computers and smartphones. This means they can enjoy gambling online, with a variety of website offering games to play from the comfort of your own home.

When it comes to the law on online gambling, there are no specific regulations that apply to web-based casinos. Instead, it has to be adapted. The Nigerian Lottery Commission is regulating online gambling and licenses are required before a company can operate a casino online to an audience. When it comes to playing online, there are no laws that state players cannot do this. Thus, anyone that is over the age of 18 in Nigeria can access an online casino that is based in Nigeria, as well as one that is based in another country. Thus, it is not illegal to play at an online casino as the law stands in Nigeria. Indeed, this area continues to thrive.
