Nigeria’s National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is making a splash with its first-ever investment in Powerstove, a leading Nigerian cookstove manufacturer with a strong track record in carbon credit initiatives.

In a statement signed by Mr. Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, Director Information at NASENI, this strategic partnership marks a big step forward for NASENI’s fight against climate change.

By supporting Powerstove, NASENI aims to create a more sustainable future for Nigeria by:

    • Boosting Production: NASENI’s investment will provide Powerstove with the resources to jump their production from 100,000 units to over 1 million annually. This will meet the growing demand for clean and efficient cookstoves, significantly reducing carbon emissions in the country.
    • Scaling Up Carbon Offsetting: Powerstove already holds the title for the largest local carbon credit project in Nigeria, with a current value of 4.5 million credits. NASENI’s investment will further strengthen these efforts.
    • Building a Sustainable Future: This partnership goes beyond cookstoves. It signifies a commitment from NASENI to actively support innovative Nigerian companies driving decarbonization efforts.

“NASENI is excited about the positive impact this collaboration will have on Nigeria’s environment and economy. With more efficient cookstoves and a growing carbon offset program, Nigeria is taking a big step towards a cleaner future,” the statement added.
