The Federal Government has launched a new Board of Directors for Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), signaling a major push for Nigeria’s digital transformation. The inauguration, led by Senator Dr. George Akume (CON), Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and GBB Board Chairman, took place in Abuja.

Senator Akume emphasized GBB’s crucial role in the national digital landscape, calling for a collaborative and transparent approach to transform GBB into a leading force in digital public infrastructure and service delivery. He stressed the need for partnership between the Board and Executive Management, focusing on “shared vision, openness, and respect” to drive technological excellence and commercial success.

Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, Managing Director/CEO of GBB, welcomed the new Board and outlined the organization’s progress since his appointment in February 2024. He highlighted the development and launch of the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2025–2028, designed to modernize Nigeria’s ICT infrastructure and empower public service.

The IDTS focuses on modernizing national ICT backbone infrastructure, building inclusive digital ecosystems, leveraging emerging technologies like AI and Blockchain, enhancing digital trust through cybersecurity and data governance and diversifying GBB’s revenue for sustainability.

Professor Adeyanju stated that the board’s expertise is vital for continued growth and national impact, and that the IDTS aligns with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, and supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Following the inauguration, the SGF and Board members toured GBB’s National Shared Services Centre (NSSC), including the Tier III Data Centre, Security Operations Centre, and Network Operations Centre. Senator Akume praised GBB’s facilities and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leveraging them for digital transformation.

The new Board comprises Senator Dr. George Akume (CON) – Chairman & SGF , Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju – Managing Director/CEO, GBB, Hon. Olusegun Olulade – Executive Director, Customer Centricity & Marketing, Mr. Olumbe Akinkugbe – Executive Director, Digital Exploration & Technical Services and Mr. Mohammed Sani Ibrahim – Executive Director, Finance & Corporate Services.

Others are Mrs. Rabi’ah Adamu-Waziri – Non-Executive Director (PTDF), Mrs. Oluwakemi Babalogbon – Non-Executive Director (MOFI), Mr. Abdulqadir Abubakar Maje – Non-Executive Director (Jigawa State), Mrs. Margaret Ene Ebute – Non-Executive Director (Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy) and Mrs. Adama Pindar – Company Secretary, Galaxy Backbone.

The diverse expertise of the new Board is expected to strengthen GBB’s ability to deliver secure and reliable digital services across Nigeria.
