Betting big on its storytellers and innovators, the Nigerian government has unveiled a comprehensive digital suite designed to transform the nation’s creative sector into a global economic powerhouse.

Through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the initiative aims to bridge the gap between artistic talent and high-tech infrastructure. The goal is ambitious: to push the industry’s valuation from its current $9 billion to over $13 billion, cementing the creative arts as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic diversification.

Speaking at Moment 2026, Africa’s largest convergence of creators, NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa emphasized that the agency is no longer viewing creativity purely through a cultural lens.

“Nigeria has always been a nation of storytellers, musicians, and designers. What is remarkable today is that this creativity has evolved beyond expression to become a powerful economic force,” Inuwa stated in an address delivered by Dr. Ayodeji Eniola.

To sustain this momentum, NITDA is focusing on three critical areas. Through the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, the agency is training young Nigerians in specialized high-end skills such as animation, visual effects, game development, and digital media. Additionally, NITDA is supporting national broadband expansion via Project BRIDGE to ensure creators across the country have the high-speed access required for global competition. Beyond technical skills, the agency is also refining frameworks for cybersecurity and data protection to safeguard the intellectual property of Nigerian creators.

With a current valuation of $9 billion, the creative sector is already one of Nigeria’s most resilient industries. By integrating emerging technologies like AI and local cloud computing (via the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative), NITDA believes the sector can add $4 billion to the national GDP in the coming years.

The message to Nigeria’s youth was clear: creativity is no longer just entertainment; it is a strategic asset for national influence and job creation.
