The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has deepened its alliance with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation. During a high-level engagement in Abuja, NITDA hosted NIPSS Director General, Professor Ayo Omotayo, and participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026, to strategize on leveraging digital innovation for economic resilience.

The meeting focused heavily on the Orange Economy, the sector comprising creative industries like digital art, film, animation, and content creation as a primary engine for sustainable growth.

Representing NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa, Dr. Aristotle Onumo emphasized that Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and youthful population provide a unique global advantage. By converting creativity into protected intellectual property, the country can build a new frontier of economic value.

“The Orange Economy represents a powerful opportunity to transform our rich cultural heritage and creativity into sustainable economic growth,” Inuwa noted.

Key sectors identified for growth include digital content creation, film and animation and digital arts.

NITDA outlined its roadmap to support this creative surge, reinforcing its ambitious target of reaching 70% digital literacy by 2027. This initiative aims to equip millions of Nigerians, including those in underserved and informal sectors, with the skills necessary to compete in a tech-driven market.

Professor Ayo Omotayo noted that the insights gained from this visit will play a vital role in formulating policy recommendations to strengthen Nigeria’s economic framework. The engagement concluded with both agencies pledging to deepen their collaboration in research and policy development, ensuring Nigeria remains a globally competitive force in the digital and creative economy.
