A decade after revolutionizing how African businesses accept payments, Paystack is venturing into the banking sector and has officially announced the launch of Paystack Microfinance Bank (MFB), a new entity dedicated to providing a full financial operating system for businesses and individuals.

The move marks a significant evolution for the company, which began ten years ago with a mission to simplify digital payments. Today, Paystack processes trillions of naira monthly for over 300,000 businesses across five African countries.

However, the company noted that while payments are critical, they are only one piece of the broader financial puzzle.

According to the announcement, the decision to launch a bank stems from a growing need for more integrated financial tools. Paystack MFB aims to go beyond transactions by helping users:

    • Store money safely and move it with ease.
    • Gain deeper insights into financial data.
    • Build with confidence using developer-friendly infrastructure that is secure and compliant.

“Ten years ago, we set out to fix payments. Today, we’re extending that work to build banking that helps you do more and dare more,” the company stated.

To maintain focus and regulatory compliance, Paystack Microfinance Bank will operate independently of its sister company, Paystack Payments Limited. The bank holds its own license and maintains a separate roadmap and governance structure, though both entities will work closely to serve their shared ecosystem.

Staying true to its roots of thoughtful simplicity, the bank has launched with a select group of initial members. Paystack MFB plans to gradually open its doors to more businesses and individuals, inviting them to help co-author the next chapter of the company’s journey.

The launch signals Paystack’s intent to compete more directly with traditional banks and emerging neobanks in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving fintech landscape.
