Siiqo expands payment infrastructure with Cryptocurrency support for Nigerian businesses

The Abuja-based commerce platform now enables SMEs, freelancers and merchants to accept cryptocurrency payments alongside traditional payment methods.

Siiqo, a Nigerian commerce platform that helps small and medium-sized businesses build online storefronts, manage sales and accept payments, has announced the launch of cryptocurrency payment support across its marketplace. The new capability enables merchants selling digital products, professional services and physical goods to receive payments in digital assets alongside existing fiat payment options.

The launch comes as cryptocurrency continues to gain traction across Nigeria’s business ecosystem. According to Chainalysis’ 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index, Nigeria remains among the world’s leading markets for grassroots cryptocurrency adoption, driven largely by peer-to-peer activity, cross-border payments and stablecoin usage. Industry analysts have also noted increasing use of digital assets by businesses seeking faster international settlements and alternatives amid foreign exchange constraints.

Rather than positioning cryptocurrency as a replacement for traditional payments, Siiqo said the feature is designed to provide merchants with greater flexibility in how they transact with customers locally and internationally.

“Digital commerce today requires businesses to support the payment methods their customers already use,” said Innocent Okereke Chinweokwu, Co-Founder and Technical Architect at Siiqo. “Adding cryptocurrency payments gives merchants another option for serving customers across borders while continuing to manage their business from a single platform.”

The announcement builds on a series of product launches by the company during 2026.

Siiqo introduced its minimum viable product (MVP) in April, offering Nigerian SMEs and freelancers an integrated platform for creating online storefronts, managing customer relationships, processing payments and improving business visibility. The launch was covered by Disrupt Africa, TechAfrica News, and We Are Tech Africa, which highlighted the platform’s focus on consolidating commerce, payments and business management into a single system for African entrepreneurs.

In June, the company expanded its commerce infrastructure onto Telegram, allowing merchants to create storefronts, manage orders, collect payments and operate verified businesses directly within the messaging platform. The launch was reported by Disrupt Africa, which noted Siiqo’s strategy of bringing commerce infrastructure into communication channels already used daily by Nigerian SMEs.

The latest release extends those capabilities by introducing cryptocurrency settlement across supported transactions, including digital products, professional services and physical merchandise.

Siiqo said merchants can enable cryptocurrency payments directly from their vendor dashboard without changing their existing storefronts or sales workflow.

The company also continues to invest in trust infrastructure designed to improve confidence in digital commerce. Its platform incorporates merchant verification, customer reviews and a multi-factor trust scoring framework that evaluates vendor performance using metrics such as order completion, dispute history, responsiveness and account longevity.

The rollout coincides with continued regulatory developments surrounding digital assets in Nigeria. The Investments and Securities Act 2025 formally recognizes virtual assets under the oversight of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), providing a clearer regulatory framework for digital asset service providers operating within the country.

According to Siiqo, more than 500 vendors currently use the platform to sell products and services online, with growth driven primarily through organic referrals and partnerships since the company’s public launch earlier this year.

“Our objective is straightforward,” Chinweokwu added. “Whether a merchant wants to accept card payments, bank transfers or cryptocurrency, they should be able to do so without managing multiple disconnected systems.”

Cryptocurrency payments are available immediately to eligible merchants on the Siiqo platform.
