Sister Zeph, the inspiring winner of the prestigious Global Teacher Prize, has called on fellow Nigerian educators to apply for this year’s $1 million award, which is being anchored by the Varkey Foundation, in partnership with UNESCO and GEMS Education.

These bodies are searching for the world’s most exceptional teacher for the annual award, which recognizes educators who are making a profound difference in the lives of their students.

    Why Apply?

As Sister Zeph, who built a school for underprivileged children at a young age, emphasizes: “Throughout Nigeria, inspiring teachers dedicate themselves to empowering students.” The Global Teacher Prize offers a platform to showcase these incredible educators and the impact they have.

    What are the Benefits?

    • Financial Reward: A life-changing $1 million prize, the largest of its kind in the education sector.
    • Global Recognition: Be honored on a global stage, inspiring others and elevating the teaching profession.
    • Community Building: Join a network of exceptional educators passionate about shaping the future.

    Eligibility:

    • Currently teaching children between 5 and 18 years old.
    • Minimum 10 hours of teaching per week.
    • Commitment to remaining in the profession for the next five years.
    • Open to all types of schools and teachers (full-time, part-time, online courses).

    Selection Criteria:

    • Innovative teaching practices that address local challenges.
    • Measurable learning outcomes achieved by students.
    • Positive impact on the community beyond the classroom.
    • Fostering a spirit of global citizenship in students.
    • Contribution to improving the teaching profession.
    • Recognition from external bodies for excellence in teaching.

    How to Apply:

Applications are accepted in English, Mandarin, Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian. Submit your application online by December 9th, 2024, at www.globalteacherprize.org

    Nigeria’s Strong Track Record:

Nigeria boasts a history of producing top contenders for the Global Teacher Prize. In 2023 alone, two Nigerian teachers made the top 50 shortlist. This year, could you be the next to represent Nigeria on the world stage?
