Update on undersea cable cut: Mainone restores services to some customers

MainOne, one of the several subsea cable affected said it has restored services to some customers and is actively working on restoring services to others via capacity acquired on available cable systems.

This follows the damages caused to some undersea cable along the West African Coastline, which has resulted in Internet and Voice services being disrupted in some African countries since last week Thursday.

“We have restored services to some customers and are actively working on restoring services to others via capacity acquired on available cable systems,” it announced.

According to Mainone, the estimated repair time is for our submarine cable fault to be fixed, to enable our services to become fully restored, and independently supply capacity to our customers.

Nigerian telecom regulator,  the Nigerian Communications Commission had last week announced cuts to several undersea cables, which occurred somewhere in Cote de’Ivoire and Senegal, with an attendant disruption in Portugal

The cuts to these cables led to Cable companies such as West African Cable System (WACS) and African Coast to Europe (ACE) in the West Coast route from Europe experiencing faults while SAT3 and MainOne had downtime.

Also, similar undersea cables providing traffic from Europe to the East Coast of Africa, like Seacom, Europe India Gateway (EIG), Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE1), are said to have been cut at some point around the Red Sea, resulting in degradation of services across on these routes.

In Nigeria and other West African countries, Internet access and speed have experienced disruptions in the networks of service providers in the affected countries.
