The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that over 80 million Nigerians can presently access high-speed Internet services as part of the milestones the industry has recorded. The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta disclosed this at the first `Talk-To-The Regulator ` Forum for the Year, 2023, held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. A report conducted by Surfshark, a cybersecurity company has revealed how Nigeria and four other countries in Africa pledged to uphold free internet in the 2021 UN resolution but broke their words by imposing 16 restrictions. According to Surfshark’s Internet Shutdown Tracker, the four other African countries that claimed to support the resolution but “broke their word” by imposing internet restrictions are Sudan, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Somalia.
